Mr. Flynn’s Criminal Justice Blog

Well, here it is, the first blog attempt for Criminal History.  I have given this a lot of thought over the last week as to how this blog should proceed.  Should we study items on a case by case basis?  should we just go over the items we discussed in class?   Should it be strictly for review of items that we will cover in the book?  I think that after giving it much thought, that it should be about a specific topic within the Criminal Justice framework, but should be open to any item of interest.  That means that we will discuss items from the text but we will be open to items and issues from other sources.  If you have read an article in the newspaper or magazine, seen a story on television or found information from any other source, we will consider it as a topic for this blog.  The purpose of this blog is to bring out information and ideas that we may miss in class.  Your job is to respond to the blog and read all of the other responses.  I want you to feel free to comment on anything that I write and on any other posts to the blog.  There is no limit to the number of times you may respond, but you must respond to each new blog of mine  within 5 days and at least one of your classmates.

Since this is my first time blogging, please bear with me.  I a neophyte and am still learning.  Feel free to give any constructive criticism you think I need.  Also, please feel free to suggest topics for this page, I am open to suggestions.

This is Johanna.. I like the idea of this blogging, but I don’t really get what we’re blogging about this time through. I don’t know if I am doing it right or not. Can we go over it in class and make sure everyone is on the same page before assigning these as quiz grades? I’m sure I am not the only one with questions haha.

I think when it comes to blogging you should ask us questions that we did in class because as we all know we can get off topic, so instead of disregarding what we talked about in class we can incoperate it. If you missed that class then mr. flynn, you could just put an alternate question in there. This will make it easier for us because we won’t always have to take our books home.

As far as this blog is concerned, i think that we should use it as a way to discuss topics that do not have to do with what the book talks about. I mean admit it we all complain about not know what to study for the tests and that the tests are so hard and we dont feel like we know anything, even I feel like that sometimes and you all know what my notes look like. =P But anyways, I think that the blog is a good way for us to discuss issues in a good amount of detail that are going on either around us or in the past. Even though I think we should focus a little more on the book, I dont necessarily think we should just read out of the text book and do worksheets and questions every day. In class discussions (about the material) would help those that can’t or don’t like to just sit in a room and do work but would rather have an interactive class.

Blogging, though, is a good way for us to focus on our off-topic discussions. And, if we do start to get off topic in class, we can just say discuss this topic on your blog, that way we can get back to the class stuff.

Also, giving everyone their own blog as opposed to just commenting on yours would make my suggestion easier to manage. Plus its kind of fun to have your own blog. =)

I think we should talk about both topics, what goes on in the book and what goes on outside of the book. But we should focus more on what is in the books because its what we need to know for tests. It shouldnt be strictly just about the book but mostly about it. Its good idea that we can give our own ideas but still talk about topics in the book. I agree with erica about blogging being a god way to focus on off topic discussions. Its easier for us to blog because everyone has a computer if not most do. And i agree with johanna that its much easier to blog so that we dont have to take home our books all the time. i keep repeating myself so im going to stop. bye.

Mr. Flynn I finally figured this thing out! anyway i think we should blog about topics outside of the book and focus on the book stuff in class. That way in class you can go over specific things that will be on those rediculous tests you tend to give, and in the blog we can talk about other things that are going on in the real world. We should still talk about things not in the book in class, just add things from the book into it. I don’t really think this is making sense so I’m pretty much outta here. see yaaaa :)

I think that blogging is a good idea and it will help us discuss important information and say what is on our minds. We should talk about different topics based on what is in our books and going on in the news and other media sources. Blogging is a good way to talk to other people and hear what they have to say about certain things. It also helps you learn new things and gets you more informed. We should mainly focus on the crimes and things going on around us that we may see in person, on TV, or in the newspaper. Those are just the topics that I think we should discuss.

I think that blogging is a good way for us to explore topics that we either miss in class or do not know enough about. Not everyone gets to voice their full opinion when we discuss subjects in class, so I think that the blog is a good way for us to do this. We should blog about cases in real life that apply to what we’re learning about in the book. Also, we should be able to blog about c.j. subjects that we find to be interesting, that may not be brought to the attention of the whole class in our discussions. I agree with Erica that everyone should have their own blog. We did that in English last year, and it worked well. It would probably be easier than just commenting on your blog alone. You could write a blog, and give us a variety of ideas and topics for that week, or assignment period. Then we could comment on yours and branch off on our own blogs. I think this will be a good way for us to expand upon our class discussions.

I believe the blog should be open to anything criminal justice realted and feel that it is a great idea and a good way to get everyones views on a certain topic. If everyone uses it right it could help alot towards understanding certain subjects within criminal justice
